City of Lockport News
Sharing the Assessor
By Mayor Michael Tucker
Apr 6, 2005, 17:47

Finally, after much courting by Mayor Michael Tucker, his counterpart in North Tonawanda has agreed to agree on sharing an assessor.
There are still quite a few bugs to be worked out — like how much each city will pay toward the assessor’s salary and how assessing departments in both cities will be staffed — but at least they’ve taken a step forward.
It didn’t look like this move was going to happen at all for the Lock City.
First, the city was turned down by its closest neighbor, the Town of Lockport.
Then, Tucker approached North Tonawanda Mayor David Burgio, who seemed agreeable at first, but then turned coy for a while before deciding last week to go forward with the plan.
Talk about playing hard to get.
We give Tucker a lot of credit for seeing this through. In the end, it should be a good, money-saving venture for both cities.
Hopefully, a final agreement can be reached soon — and will ultimately serve as an example for the rest of the county and Western New York that old dogs can indeed learn new tricks.
