Garbage & Recycling Information

Garbage

The Town of Lockport contracts with Modern Corporation for garbage and recycling services.  Garbage must be placed within 4 feet of the street curb by 6 am on your collection day.

If you have more than what can fit in your garbage tote, you may purchase orange tags for $5.00 each at the Town Clerk’s Office during regular business hours.

Carpeting must be rolled in lengths of 4 feet or less, taped securely and no wider than 18 inches.  Any carpet, flooring and/or wood must be put out during large item pick up, which is the first full week of each month.  You are allowed a maximum of 4 large items, per parcel, once a month.  Refrigerators and freezers must have the doors removed and refrigerant (freon) removed.  Freon must be removed from a HVAC company.  Please call Murphy’s Appliances at 625-8081 for information on how to have freon removed from refrigerators/freezers.  Air conditioners and dehumidifiers may also be placed at the curb as long as the freon is removed.  Please call Isaac Heating & Air Conditioning at 685-1400 for removal of freon in air conditioners/dehumidifiers.  Hazman, located in Tonawanda, does accept items with freon for a fee.  You may call them at 716.695.6720 with any questions.  Large items, such as pianos, organs, hot tubs, must be broken down.  If they are not, Modern will not pick them up.

Modern Corporation will also pick up brush as long as it is cut into 4 ft. lengths, bundled, tied, no more than 50 lbs. and is in your garbage tote.  Fiber glass, solar pool covers and hangers may be thrown away and are not to be recycled. Car, boat and power tool batteries may be taken to a battery recovery facility/auto parts store.

Unacceptable items for garbage collection include: dead animals, explosive and flammable materials, pesticides, compressed gas cylinders, aerosol cans, motor oils and any hazardous or medical grade waste.

If for any reason your garbage or bulky items are not collected, please contact the highway clerk at 716.439.9522.  Office hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.  You may also call Modern Corporation at 800.330.7107, option 1.  Observed holidays for Modern Corporation are: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.  The holiday schedule will be updated and posted as warranted.

 

Town of Lockport Recycling Tote

 

Recycling

The Town of Lockport contracts with Modern Corporation for recycling collection.  Recycling is collected every other week.  Please refer to the recycling schedule calendar to determine the week of your collection. Recycling should be placed in the 96-gallon recycling tote provided to you and should be out to the curb by 6 am.  Place the tote within two feet of the road curb with the wheels toward the house and the bar to the road.  There is not a limit to the amount of recycling you have out to the curb.  If you have extra cardboard and cannot fit it your recycling tote, make sure it is broken down and lay it next to your recycling tote.  Do not place it in a box or another container.

Additional recycling totes are available to purchase at the Town Clerk’s office Monday – Friday 8:30-4:30. 96-gallon totes are $75. Totes will be delivered to your home by Town staff once payment is received.

 

Brush Pickup

Brush will be picked up every 3rd Monday of the month between March and November. Please have it out by 7AM.  No roots stumps or limbs larger than 8″ in diameter.  Brush must be piled neatly with cut ends toward the road. There will be no return trips to pick up brush.

Residents can also include brush in their garbage collection.  It must be bundled, tied, cut in to 4ft. lengths and no more than 50 lbs. in weight.

LEAF PICK UP:  leaves are only picked up in areas with gutter curbs;  if your road does not have gutter curbs, you will have to bag them for garbage pick up or mulch them.
