Assessment Department

Assessor’s Office

The main job of the Assessor is to establish fair market value of properties in the Town of Lockport. The Assessor is obligated by New York State law to maintain assessments at a uniform percentage of market value each year. Our goal is to annually maintain a 100% equalization, where each assessed value represents its fair market value. The Town of Lockport Assessment Department is responsible for several functions including:

  • Locate property, collect and update inventory data
  • Analyze properties and sales (residential, commercial and land)
  • Determine ownership of all property and maintain records
  • Process Exemptions
  • File Assessment roll
  • Assist residents and nonresidents with information requests

Why Reassessments?

The Town of Lockport continues to participate in the “Annual Reassessment Program”. This program helps keep properties fair and equally assessed, helps reduce taxes, allows maximum savings on exemptions and is easier to understand.

Keep in mind, the Assessment Department does not determine tax rates.
