Transit North Corridor

The Transit North Corridor is the areas major transportation route with an average daily traffic count of 29,309 as well as greater Lockport’s major retail business district. Transit North is host to many national and regional retail businesses including: Walmart Supercenter, TJ Maxx, Maurices, SHOE DEPT, Home Depot, Office Max, Panera Bread, PetSmart, Kay Jewelers, TOPS Grocery Market, Aldi’s Market, Runnings, Great Clips, Visionworks and New York Beer Project. Transit North is an architecturally themed, historic shopping district.

Tourist and Cultural Attractions in Greater Lockport

Anchored by the Historic Erie Canal Canalway Corridor, there a number of wonderful tourist and cultural opportunities throughout Lockport.

Niagara Falls State Park is only 20 miles away where you can experience a once in a lifetime natural wonder. Throughout the summer months there is the Discover Niagara Shuttle that runs between The Falls and Lockport and is free. Below is a sampling of options perfect for visitors and residents alike.

Lockport Locks Heritage District

Surrounding the famed Erie Canal Flight of Five Locks restoration, the Lockport Locks Heritage District also features the recreation of a famed LockTenders photo, the Historic Canal Street District,  Old City Hall and Locks 67-71 on the modern Erie Canal. 45 minute tours of the Flight of Five and Canal run Monday through Friday and leave from the Erie Canal Discovery Center at 11am.

Erie Canal Discovery Center

This multi-media museum is devoted to the Erie Canal, particulary the Flight of Five Locks restoration. On display is the “Opening of the Erie Canal” mural by artist Raphael Beck. A simulated canal boat ride through the locks relates stories of “canawlers” and interactive games enhance awareness of the 18th century technology developed to respond to the challenges of the Niagara Escarpment.

Lockport Locks and Erie Canal Cruises

Experience a narrated cruise on the Erie Canal and feel the excitement of being raised and lowered 50 feet in the only double locks of the present-day Canal system alongside canal locks from the historic canal era.

Lockport Cave and Underground Boat Ride

Travel on an actual underground boat ride through the Lockport Caves, a 1600 lineal foot man-made tunnel crafted in the 1800’s to channel water from the top of the Lockport Locks to power industry along the historic waterway. A narrated walk of Erie Canal Locks 34 and 35 combines with the boat ride for an entertaining 70-minute tour. Zipline rides across the Erie Canal near the upside-down bridge are also available.

Challenger Learning Center

Using space exploration as a theme, the Challenger Learning Center of Orleans, Niagara and Erie Counties will create positive learning experiences that raise students’ expectations for success, as well as foster a long-term interest in mathematics, science and technology, which may motivate them to pursue possible careers in these fields. We offer programs throughout the year suited to a wide range of interests. New events are constantly being developed and updated.

Niagara Wine Trail

The Niagara Wine Trail, USA is situated between the Niagara Escarpment and Lake Ontario. This geography has created a unique micro-climate, suitable for the production of grapes that are used to create fine wines. Visitors to the Niagara Wine Trail can select from among 15 wineries including Spring Lake Wineries in the Town of Lockport.

Golf Courses

Greater Lockport hosts 3 public golf courses each offering a challenging day of golf and wonderful food and drink offerings. Gothic Hill is a 9-hole Executive Par3 course, Willowbrook is a challenging 27-hole course and the Niagara County Golf Course is a municipal 18-hole course.
