Mailboxes

Here are some helpful guidelines to follow when placing your mailbox.

    • Position your mailbox 41″ to 45″ from the grounds surface to the bottom of the mailbox or point of mail entry.

    • Place your mailbox 6″ to 8″ back from the curb or edge of the road.

Diagram for mailbox installation

The Highway Department also recommends that Town residents that have a distinctive or custom mailbox replace it with a standard model during the winter months. This recommendation also applies to plastic mailboxes. These mailboxes become brittle in the cold weather and when the snow is thrown from the snowplow, the weight of the snow may damage the mailbox.

Mailbox Repair Policy

If your mailbox is damaged by the Town snowplows, please contact the Highway Department at 716.439.9522. It will be replaced with a standard mailbox only.

Invisible dog fences and sprinkler systems

The Town is not responsible for items placed in the right-of-way. Please do not place items (invisible fences, sprinklers, fencing, etc.) in the right-of-way.
